A successful 8th POWER-GEN Middle East opened in style today 17th February 2009 with ribbon cutting ceremony by H.E. Fahmi bin Ali Al-Jowder Minister of Works, Ministry of Works.

H.E. Fahmi bin Ali Al-Jowder provided the opening speech followed by a key note presentation by Mr. Bertrand Magné, Energy Analyst, International Energy Agency, France, speech by Debbie Stanford-Kristiansen, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Bahrain Exhibition & Convention Authority and speech by Glenn Ensor, Director of Events Pennwell.

His Excellency Fahmi bin Ali Al-Jowder, Minister of Works, responsible for the Bahrain Electricity and Water Authority said: “The unique challenge to GCC countries of keeping pace with economic expansion and consumption of energy and water are far greater than at any other time. “I am pleased that POWER-GEN Middle East 2009 in the Kingdom of Bahrain has conference sessions on nuclear power and renewable energy. We need all available sources of power generation to reduce the GCC’s reliance on fossil fuels”.

The Bahrain International Exhibition Centre will be hosting the 3 day event, from 17-19 February 2009, and will receive the leading industry professionals from the power and water industries of the Gulf region.
